The Hog, the Shrew and the Hullabaloo
Published by Faber and Faber, 2015
It was night in the village – a still, dark night –
and Harry the Hog was sleeping tight.
In her house at the foot of Piggyback Hill,
also asleep, was Candy Stripe Lil.
When a hog and a shrew are best friends, it’s only so long before there’ll be a hullabaloo! Harry the Hog is kept awake by strange noises in the night, and it’s up to Lil the Shrew to find out what the problem is. Not everything is quite what it seems!

There is something dreamlike at play when an illustrator and writer combine to such effect.
This is a great book, immediately popular with both my son and me. It has very pleasing illustrations, calming hues and images which pair up well with the lyrical language and make it wonderful for a bedtime read. I love the odd teaming of a hog and a shrew, and this only serves to make it a more memorable and whimsical book which I think we’re going to be using at bedtime in our house for a long time to come.
This sweet book is a rhyming gem.
A beautifully illustrated, laugh aloud book to share with age three and upwards.
